Wind Mitigation falls under Florida Statute 627.711 that was enacted in 2007.
This inspection requires Insurance Companies to offer “Premium discounts, credits or rate differentials” for certain Hurricane Resistant Features.
There is a standardized Wind Mitigation Verification Form that’s used in the Industry (OIR-B1-1802)
These are the seven specific items that offer improved levels of Wind Resistance and six have been a part of the Florida Building Code since 2001:
Building Code, Roof Covering Type, Roof Deck Attachment, Roof to Wall Attachment, Roof Geometry, Secondary Water Resistance and Opening Protection.
